History of Adelaide

Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia and was founded in 1836 by Colonel William Light. It is situated on the Adelaide Plains between the Gulf St Vincent and the Mount Lofty Ranges. The city is approximately 700 kilometers west of Melbourne and 1300 kilometers west of Sydney.
The region was originally inhabited by the Indigenous Kaurna people, who had lived on the land for thousands of years before the arrival of European settlers. The Kaurna people had a rich cultural history in the area, with a deep spiritual connection to the land and a complex social structure.
During the 19th century, Adelaide became an important centre of trade and commerce, particularly in wool and wheat exports. The city also played a significant role in Australia's political history, hosting the first national convention that led to the formation of the Commonwealth of Australia.
In the 20th century, Adelaide continued to grow and develop, becoming a center of manufacturing, technology, and education. Today, it is a vibrant city with a rich history and culture, offering visitors and residents alike a diverse range of experiences and attractions.
